Two months later and finally a new design.

I like the template layout I have installed, but wanted something lighter, brighter and not quite so many things making the header busy.
I will be writing soon about our two breeds of critically endangered chickens. Watch this week for it!

I have tweaked and tweaked. I just cannot get this blog to look like I want it to. In the next several days, I hope to have it looking new and much nicer. Stay tuned.
Since we live in the city limits, and do not have a large enough lot to legally keep chickens, all of our chickens live in cages in the garage and in huge plastic tubs in my sewing room. We are hoping to have their coop and run built out at our new farm/acreage in the next few weeks.
Yesterday, we decided to let the oldest chickens “free range” in our backyard. It was total success. No crowing at all! WHEW! Most of them wanted to stay close in human contact and hung around on the porch. We’re planning on doing this every afternoon for them, and maybe eventually, they will enjoy getting off the concrete and scratching around in the yard.

We have added to our original plan of only a “few” chickens in the house until we can move to our land.
Well, you know as well as I do, how cute baby chicks are…right?
Tractor Supply (where dh works) is having their Chick Days. Good gosh, why do I go into that store when they have critters????
We now have 5 bantam chickens in cages in our garage (they are all 2.5-3 months old)….oh the dust out there! There are around 30 chicks in my sewing room they range in age from 1.5 months-2 weeks old. Oh my how addicting those cute little things are!!!
It’s time to thin out. There are 3 already promised to a new home….going to put some ads on craigslist, etc to try to sell a few more. I’m ready for my sewing room back and less dust in the house.
A couple of weeks ago, I read on 50’s Housewife, about a recipe in her menu with eggs as the main ingredient.
The dish is an egg casserole. I haven’t made it yet, but it’s on my list of new recipes to try. Looks and sounds wonderful.
You just may want to give it a try!

Our hen hasn’t started laying eggs yet, but I can’t wait until she does. We should start getting fresh eggs around the end of April. She’s a bantam, so our egg supply will be limited, but it’s a start.

I just put 22 eggs in the incubator late last night. These are from my friend Dipsy Doodle Doo (Lisa) over at Backyard Chickens. This is my third batch of eggs from her. They are frizzle bantams (Mutts). It’s so fun when they hatch because you never know what you will get. EXCEPT this batch, she sent me 2 Serama eggs, 3 Mottled Japanese Bantams and 1 Naked Neck (aka Turken) egg.
I also have some Bantam Buff Brahmas, Bantam Porcelain D’Uccles and Bantam Salmon Faverolle eggs on the way!!!
I have turned into a serious Hatch-a-Holic! Hubby and the kids enjoy hatching as much as I do!
